Menopause Worries and Uncertainties

"I am a 50 year old woman going through menopause. I have night sweats, hot flashes, insomnia, palpitations, no libido and terrible emotional swings. I'm afraid to go on estrogen, because of all the negative hype in the last four years, since the report of the Women’s Health Initiative was published. What can I do?”
“First, there is no need to suffer a painful menopause. This integral change in a woman’s life is different from woman to woman. Some women seem to breeze through menopause and others suffer miserably. The Woman’s Health Initiative studied the effects of Premarin and Prempro along with commonly used progestin’s such as Provera. The women taking these hormones demonstrated an increase in heart disease, blood clots and cancer of the breast and ovary. The estrogens used are foreign to the human body. They are derived from the urine of pregnant mares. Moreover, the study was based on women that were post menopause, as opposed to women going through active menopause. The study did not address bio-identical hormones which are derived from wild yams. In my opinion, these are a safe alternative to the estrogens used in the past and can certainly aid women going through menopause.”
